It is a very strange world out there…especially during the Republican primaries, which were just a complete circus. The general election should be fairly interesting too, once it heats up.
I’m actually in Paris for the time being, and the final round of the presidential election is this Sunday. Looks like Sarkozy’s probably going to lose. Either way, I’m definitely getting my election fill this year.
Ah beautiful Paris, say hi to it for me. Who do you think will win there? A right-wing or left-wing party?
And yes, despite my lack of expert knowledge on US elections, I know that the Republican Primaries are a joke. Being a Palestinian and fairly knowledgeable on Israeli Palestinian politics, I actually laughed hard when Newt said that Palestinians are an invented people.
Are you living in the West Bank or Gaza, or elsewhere? As an undergrad, I studied in Cairo for a semester, and I’ll actually be in Beirut interning for the UN this summer, but I’ve never made it to the West Bank, which I’ve always wanted to do.
As for Newt Gingrich, his utter failure as a candidate is a sign that, at least some of the time, there is justice in the world.
I don’t know too much about the presidential elections in the USA (and I think I really should investigate it more). But that just gave me a chuckle.

Sarkozy seems extremely likely to lose. There’s no real far-left candidates remaining (at least, not by French standards). There were 10 candidates in the first round, ranging from the extreme right (Marine Le Pen) to the extreme left (Jean-Luc Mélenchon), but per French election law, only two were left standing after the polls closed: François Hollande (Parti Socialiste) and President Sarkozy (UMP). But Sarkozy is quite unpopular these days, so it looks like he’s not going to make it through.
